Paper #1 Guidelines
This assessment supports Course Objectives 2: Explain moral terms and concepts and
3: Analyze cases in medical ethics
This paper is due in the D2L dropbox no later than
 3-4 pages, 12 point font, double-spaced
 Worth 85 points
 I am always happy to meet in person, talk on the phone, connect over Zoom, or
discuss your paper via email.
 This paper will focus on the skill of summarizing (putting in your own words
someone else’s arguments).  We will be using articles from a database available
through the HTC Library called “Points of View Reference Center.”  I have posted
links and pdf file versions of the articles.
Choose one of the following topics/options:

of Cloning.” By: Ballaro, Beverly, Sprague, Nancy, Points of View: Cloning, 3/1/2016

Part 3: In one paragraph offer an assessment of which argument(s) you think are
strongest and why. Please note that I am not asking you which arguments you most
agree with–I am asking you which side presents the strongest arguments.
Rubric/Grading Parts 1 & 2 are each worth 35 points.  Part 3 is worth 15 points.  Be
sure to focus on the main arguments.  You won’t have enough space to summarize
everything each article says, so you’ll need to decide what is most important.  Also, use
quotation marks when quoting directly from an article.  Please be sure to do your own
work (see the course syllabus section on plagiarism and academic integrity).  I will be
comparing everyone’s papers closely.
Option #2: Assisted Suicide

Part 1: In 1.5-2 pages summarize the arguments in “Active Euthanasia Should Be
Outlawed”. By: Pawlick, Peter, DiLascio, Tracey M., Points of View: Assisted Suicide,
9/30/2016
