Nutrition

1. 1. I’m working with Nutritics. Are you able to advise on whether we should select a specific energy calculation formula? For example, Henry Oxford 2005 It doesn’t matter as long as you indicate in your essay which specific energy calculation you are using.

2. Am I required to analyze all 7 days? You are only asked to do 1 day from your own diet, 1 day from the standard western diet and 1 day from the amended diet. Do not do a 7 day analysis. Create a separate table to record your 7 day intake and then submit this as an appendix.

3. Do we just submit a print off of each day (1 of our own, western day & adjusted western day) from the software we use? Other students have said we additionally need to create our own data presentation in order to present the 3 diaries side by side? Please, could you clarify this? You should provide an original copy of the software print outputs for each day and submit these as an appendix. You are also advised to transpose all three diets into one table on one page to compare side by side some things that we have asked you to calculate eg. animal vs plant protein intakes, as cronometer and nutritics do not calculate these as standard. You can also use the table to summarize key information, such as on RNI’s and compare how these differ across the 3 days.

4. Should the essay be written in first or third person? If the third person, there is some confusion as to how we would write about our own diary in the third person. Would you mind giving us an example? The essay must be written in the third person – this is important as when people refer to themselves in the first person they are less critical of their own diet and more likely to use their biases and beliefs to justify their own diet. Avoid “I liked this, I didn’t like that” as a style of writing. This is an academic piece of work so it should read like a scientific paper. The marks all come from critical and analytical writing styles so keep it objective and scientific

5.How much referencing is expected? In the discussion, you are expected to use some primary research (studies) to critically appraise the risks vs benefits of any macro or micronutrient excesses/insufficiencies in terms of disease risk. As usual, any specific health claims need referencing and a minimum of one reference per 100 words is expected. Use research to build an argument of your own rather than just telling us what studies said
