research & summaries discussion question
research & summaries and need to help me learn.
1-Choose a topic. Start with a simple question that you want to know the answer to: What do Cuyamaca students (or millennials, women, Americans, etc) think about _____________?
2-Research your topic to help you form a hypothesis. Find three references for your topic.
3-Choose your variables. Remember that the independent variable causes or influences the dependent variable.
Independent variables: Think about ways that your targeted group differs. Your independent variables will most likely be demographic characteristics (race, age, sex, income, religion, education, location/residence, student/non student, etc.), identities, attitudes or opinions they hold, or something about their position in life/work. Use at least the first five

Optional Questions:
If you are surveying mostly working adults, then you may want to include income, employment
status, etc.
Dependent Variables: These are the variables that change as a result of your independent variables. It could be attitudes about something, likelihood of or willingness to doing something, or anything else that may be caused by an independent variable. Examples: attitudes about health, likelihood to play video games or watch different types of television, willingness or likelihood to try or do something (travel, move, do exercise, attend a concert, hold open a door), etc.
Write your hypothesis. Write a hypothesis about what you think is the likely answer to this research question. Remember, your hypothesis should testable and provable or falsifiable: you should be able to imagine different results that would support or not support your hypothesis. Your hypothesis should have at least one independent and one dependent variable.
Example Hypothesis: Older Cuyamaca students will be more likely to think_______ than younger Cuyamaca students.
In this example, the independent variables are Cuyamaca student and age (you would have to survey non-Cuyamaca students to compare if being a Cuyamaca student is one of your independent variables).
The dependent variable in this example is attitudes/thoughts about
5- Create questions that verify the independent variable. If your independent variable is demographic related, then the provided questions may be enough. If it is something else, like religion, income, student status, or anything else, then you will need to include a question to be able to identify it for your respondents
6-Create questions that test the dependent variable. Think of what questions you could ask to find out what people think about your dependent variable. Come up with at least three questions that will help you learn about your independent variable. Be as specific and objective as possible. Use closed ended questions
7-Make your survey. Make a survey with all of the questions you created for your independent and dependent variables. You can use any survey tool, as long as I can access the link for grading. Leave your survey up at least until you get a grade.Your questionnaire should have a minimum of 10 separate items/questions:
Questions to Include by Type
Number of Questions Question Type
5 (at least) demographic and any additional independent variable questions if your independent variable is not age, sex, race, ethnicity, or education.
3 independent variable questions
2 additional questions in the questionnaire to make it less obvious what your research question is (and to make it less likely that your questionnaire format will bias the responses).
Post your survey online and have at least ten people take your survey. More would be even better.
Answer the questions for this assignment.
QUESTION 1
Answer the following questions:
What was your main research question (what were you trying to find out)?
Why do you want to study this/Why does this interest you?
What is your dependent variable?
What is your independent variable?
What is your hypothesis based on these variables
LIST 3 references in MLA format that support your hypothiss and Briefly Summarize each reference
Give a detailed summary your findings and discuss any differences you found by demographics.
Did your findings support your hypothesis?
Please paste the link for your survey. I will use this link to see if your survey meets all of the requirements of the assignment instructions including:
at least three dependent variable questions
at least five independent variable questions
two extra questions to keep your main hypothesis hidden
at least ten questions total
Give a detailed summary your findings and discuss any differences you found by demographics.
Did your findings support your hypothesis?
Discuss what theory of the might explains your theory
ere you surprised by your results? Why or Why not?
After reviewing the results, do you need to change your hypothesis? If so, what would the new hypothesis be?
