DB#2: Art, Emotion, and Understanding!
After carefully reading chapters three and four of the book,
(1) explain why, for Graham, the emotive theories of art fail to account for the nature and value of art and
(2) show how he defends his cognitivist theory of art (i.e., the view according to which art is a form of understanding of a specific and distinct ontological domain: the art world)—in particular, explain why he thinks his theory is superior to emotivist theories of art.
As in the first DB, your analyses can focus on only two of the theories analyzed by the author.
When appropriate, integrate Berger’s views into the discussion of the issues by using the notes you submitted in week 5.
