For your final assignment, you must develop and explain your own ethical theory including concepts learned this semester. In a way, your final paper is comprised of parts of the various questions and dilemmas posed over the previous modules.

Your paper must achieve the following:

  1. Research & Reflection: Consider your own ethics. Focus on the concept of ethical decision-making in your own life. Reflect on your own ethical beliefs and values, and how they have been shaped by your family, culture, and environment. Here you will begin to build your own ethical theory. You must research and analyze various ethical theories that you use to construct your moral theory, such as utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics, and so on. Explain how these help you to make up your own theory.
  2. Create and Write: Develop your own ethical framework by combining different aspects of the theories we have studied while reflecting on your own beliefs and values. Include this concept as Vaughn has discussed it in the final chapter of the textbook. Explain your ethical framework in detail, contrasting and comparing it with the theories we have learned about. Discuss how it might be applied to different real-world scenarios in your own life. Include at least three real-world examples that involve you. These examples must consider the implications of your ethical decisions in these situations and their impact on individuals, communities, and the world at large. You must use references to support your arguments. Finally, the essay should provide a conclusion that reflects your own opinion on the importance of ethical decision-making and its potential for creating a better society.

Your essay should demonstrate an understanding of the ethical theories presented in class and should be supported by evidence from reliable sources. Be sure to include in-text citations and a list of works cited at the end of the essay. You must use foursources including the textbook, Beginning Ethics, by Lewis Vaughn (2015). If you do not meet the word count and/or do not use the textbook and three other sources you will automatically receive a failing grade of 60% (maximum). The essay must be 2000 words.
