Overview
During the learning process, the new knowledge, insights, and experiences you encounter are connected to previous knowledge, insights, and experiences in a meaningful way. Only when new knowledge has meaning are you able to retain, use, and adapt that new knowledge.
In this assignment, you will employ the skill of reflective thinking. Through this process of reflection, you will think critically about your learning, especially regarding issues such as your progress in learning, the difficulties you encountered during the process, the strategies you used to overcome difficulties, and your evaluation of your own performance.
The goal of this reflective exercise is to help you to become aware of your learning. This assignment will facilitate your introspection and enrich your learning. As you complete this reflection exercise, keep in mind that there are no correct or incorrect answers. The grade you receive will reflect how well you demonstrated reflective thought (quality).
The reflective exercise will ask three types of questions:
- Identify important learning activities during the classes (What).
- Analyze the impact of these learning activities on your way of thinking by making connections to your previous experiences and/or knowledge (So what).
- Predict how these learning activities will impact your future experiences (Now what).
- The reflective exercise is delivered online, below. The exercise consists of 4 short answer questions. Your response is to be approximately 50 words in length for each question. To receive credit, your responses must be meaningful and substantive.

Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to assess your ability to:
- Describe the preparation, demand, salary, and regulations for an advanced practice role.
- Discuss the role of the master’s prepared nurse in the healthcare delivery system.
- Identify how the master’s prepared nurse utilizes technology and information management to improve patient outcomes.
- Advocate for the role of the professional nurse.
- Develop a professional presentation using PowerPoint.
Action Items
Develop a PowerPoint presentation no longer than 3-5 minutes (about 5-7 slides, not including the title and reference slides). Develop speaker’s notes to support the content of your presentation. You may want to review the course Portfolio Project Overview.

- Discuss 2-3 professional organizations that you might be engaged with in this role. Include the mission, focus, and benefits of belonging to this organization.

ePortfolio
Saving your ePortfolio documents: Your final Portfolio projects from each course in the MSN program are to be kept in a backed up folder on your computer. Create a folder labeled “MSN Portfolio,” and save all of your designated course portfolio projects throughout the program. You will refer to these during your final practicum course. For Nursing 612, please keep Part 4 (Advanced Practice Role Paper), and Part 5: Presentation in your ePortfolio.

- By Wednesday, post your presentation to the Portfolio Presentation Discussion forum.
- By Wednesday, upload your work.
- By Saturday, view the other presentations, and respond to at least two of your classmate’s posts.
Grading Criteria
Your work will be assessed based on the associated grading rubric. Please read the rubric early on and ensure you understand it. Ask for clarification as needed.
This assignment is also used to assess MSN Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) through the rubric. The PLO assessment will appear as separate rows within the rubric; they will not contribute points to the assignment.
